Gail Thorne is a trained Couple Counsellor, Psychosexual Therapist, Family Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor. She currently works for Relate and has a private practice.  She also supervises the work of sex therapists and couple counsellors who work across Cheshire and Merseyside. She has a special interest in working with relationships and sexual issues. She works with couples and individuals on their relationships and sexual problems. She is also a rainer and facilitator and delivers lectures on Sex Therapy to other professionals as part of their continuous professional development and to students on University courses. Her work with groups is safe, fun and filled with insight drawn from her many years of working with couples and their relationships.  They are interactive and packed with lots of information… everything you needed to know, but were afraid to ask!

The training offers counsellors the opportunity to develop their understanding of sexual issues and psychosexual therapy

During the training we would look at:

  • What is PsychoSexual Therapy and what happens when clients attend
  • Sexual functioning
  • Male and Female Anatomy
  • Working with a sexual focus : When to refer and when not to refer

Aims

The aim is to encourage counsellors to work with a sexual focus, as well as to know when an onward referral would be appropriate.  During the training

counsellors will:

  • be reminded about what PST involves
  • have a clear understanding of sexual functioning, looking at some of the myths and fantasies that are influential in how couples function sexually
  • have resources and ideas for working with a sexual focus
